The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation recently granted $15,000 to the McGennis Youth Center in Rich Hill to complete construction of two camping cabins.
The agricultural youth center provides outdoor recreation for families and youth. The non-profit center features camping, fishing, swimming, nature areas, picnic spots and meeting spaces that are used by 4-H clubs, schools, churches and families. Several events are hosted each year including a BBQ and Benefit Auction, Movie Night Under the Stars, a Jack-O-Lantern Walk and hayrides. The cabins will be built by volunteers and include features that make them usable for several seasons.
“Our facility is available to all people with little to no cost for its use,” says Virginia Habjan, McGennis Youth Center President. “Our priority has been providing space for youth groups.”
The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation represents the cooperative’s long-term commitment to a thriving and prosperous agricultural industry and our rural communities. The Foundation focuses on targeted, long-term investments.
“Outdoor recreation and events like those held at McGennis Youth Center build community and provide benefits for all,” says David Janish, FCS Financial CEO. “Additional camping cabins will provide additional space for people to enjoy the center and its services.”
